Cuba: Picadillo
I probably won't make it out to this gorgeous island for a while (can we get on lifting the embargo por favor???). Thankfully I've had the pleasure of experiencing some great Cuban food in Chicago (90 Miles Cuban Cafe, Cafe Bolero, Cafe LaGuardia) and New York (Margon), as well as the amazingness that was my Cubana Dailyn's legit home cooking.
Since this is the first recipe in the series I thought best to keep it simple and decided to make Cuban Picadillo. It's a one pot dish (bonus points!) similar to hash and combines ground beef (I substituted ground turkey and the world kept turning), tomato paste, peppers, green olives and raisins.
The Dutch saw some action and the end result was a hit! Perfect combination of savory, sweet (raisins)and sour (olives).
Here's the recipe
We're off to a good start!
